The importance of self-defence and its techniques will form the theme of the next workshop being organised by the Sukhmani Charitable Trust in Auckland.
The programme, apparently in deference to the wishes of a number of people, will be held at Migrant Action Trust, 766 Sandringham Road, Mt Roskill on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at 6 pm.
Entry to the workshop is free but the organisers have requested prior registration.
Captain Ajit Ramanathan, Media Manager of the Trust said that the forthcoming workshop comes on the heels of a similar event held on April 12.
Trial workshop
The previous event held on a trial basis had Philippa Van Kuilenburg, a qualified counsellor as the guest speaker. She outlined the types of violence and advised participants on the ways of means of protecting themselves legally. Martial Arts experts Tony and Julie demonstrated new techniques to diffuse physical attack,” he said.
The Trust acknowledges that violence is not the answer in any situation except when an individual is faced with an attacker and self-defence is the only solution available.
Non-aggressive means
Captain Ramanathan said that self-defence techniques can be employed through non-aggressive means.
“Our Trust will soon arrange a community radio talk on this topic. These workshops meanwhile will create awareness of the rights and responsibilities of people, retaining their own power and learning self-defence techniques without offending the offender,” he said.
