Jyoti Pratibha in Fiji Sun
Fiji’s wonder boy and Wellington Phoenix Striker Roy Krishna is set to tie knots with his equally famous Fiancée Naziah Ali, Publisher of the successful ‘Mai Life’ magazine in July.
Their nuptial will be just as fascinating as the power couple themselves.
It will not only be a unique wedding of two people but the marrying of Fiji’s major cultures and religions.
They will have a traditional Muslim Mehndi Night, followed by a civil union after which a traditional iTaukei Tevutevu will be held.
It will culminate with a visit to a Hindu temple for blessings.
A unique combination
Naziah Ali explained how and why they have opted for such a unique way to celebrate a major step in their life.
“We both come from mixed backgrounds and we want to celebrate the start of lives together with our loved ones in the traditional way. This means a few uniquely different events over a weekend to pay tribute to our cultures and religions,” she said.
“We are very lucky to have an understanding and accepting families who believe that love supersedes all differences and that we should not be discriminating against anyone based on race and religion,” Naziah added.
Her mother is iTaukei Christian from the village of Nailaga in Ba, while her late father was an Indo-Fijian Muslim.
Roy’s parents are Hindus of South Indian descent who currently reside in Labasa.
Fashion Icon
The former beauty queen is a renowned fashion icon in Fiji and her wedding ensemble will be reflective of her fashion sense.
She has kept the details of her wedding under wraps but has divulged enough to say that she will be wearing traditional outfits at the various events, a nod to the cultures with which they both identify.
For her mehndi, Naziah will wear a Salwaar Kameez designed in India. For her civil union, she has opted for a more traditional white gown.
Naziah will wear a Masi outfit for her Tevutevu, while the blessing at the Temple will be done in a sari she handpicked in Hyderabad, India.
Complete Man
Krishna said that Naziah makes him complete and that he is looking forward to the wedding festivities.
Speaking to the Fiji Sun from New Zealand, Krishna confirmed that their wedding will be held in July this year and he will be back in the country a few months prior to help with the final preparations.
“For us, it is important to have the blessings of our family because they are the people who have brought us this far. So, our wedding is not just an event but a meaningful period for our two families to come together,” he said.
Also keeping true to her roots, the wedding is expected to be held in Ba.
