Almost seven years ago, we made a brief mention of Agustya Chandra as a Form 7 Student at Auckland Grammar School in a news report (Indian Newslink, September 15, 2014).

He has now grown to be a fine young man, and an impressive young actor after honing his histrionic skills at the ‘Anupam Kher’s Actor Prepares Mumbai,’ in Mumbai.

Good attributes

Two years in the Hindi film industry and theatre in one of the busiest cities in the world has given Agustya what it takes to be an actor: friendly, well-mannered, determination, devotion and most important of all, humility with the hunger to grow.

He told ‘Star Now’ (an organisation that connects talent with casting professionals and allows them to castings) of his dreams: “I am very passionate about acting as I love playing different characters, living different lives, experiencing new things and learning from them. I want to make my own mark as an actor in the entertainment industry and achieve my goals through hard work, dedication and lots of passion.”

Encouraged by his parents Rakesh Chandra, National Procurement Manager at Hind Management (the company that owns and manages the Sudima Hotels chain) and Alpana Chandra (Centre Manager at a Child Care Centre), Agustya understands the challenges of life and stands up to them.

Television and Theatre

Two years ago, following the completion his graduate degree (Bachelor of Commerce), he shifted to Mumbai to find himself a place in showbusiness. He played a featured role in ‘Tara from Satara,’ a prime-time show that was aired nationally on Sony TV.

At home, he was a model for a commercial for The Warehouse, which made him a well-recognised man across millions of television viewers.

Agustya has been involved in multiple productions with ‘Prayas,’ a local theatre company, promoted by Indian Newslink since its inception 15 years ago. They include ‘Yatra,’ ‘First World Problems 3.0’ and ‘Dara.’

Rising Content Creator

He is now focusing on becoming a Content Creator, posting videos related to acting and dancing on YouTube and Instagram.

Indian Ink, a theatre company, described Agustya as an actor, dancer, and choreographer.

“He has experience in theatre productions and has been dancing for eight years, having performed around Auckland and shot dance covers. A big gym junkie, he has recently started learning Kung Fu,” the Company said in a brief.

Energetic dancer

Watching his ‘Blockbuster’ and ‘You are my Soniya’ (rendered with Richa), ‘Dangal Remix’ (with Drishti and Nautanki Express) among others, is likely to remind you of some of the dancing stars who popularised Hindi and English over the past several decades.

Please watch the following video to watch not only the creativity of Agustya but also that of the best of local talents from the Indian community.
