Two Auckland women did us proud in Mumbai

Winning in a beauty contest brings public attention and accolades but there can only be one Title Winner and no more than two Runners-Up.

To a majority of contestants in these pageants, participation brings greater rewards.

Monisha Gounder

“It enriches us with experience, instils confidence and equally important, brings a new circle of friends. I consider myself very fortunate,” says Monisha Gounder, 17-year-old Papatoetoe High School student who participated at the Miss India Worldwide 2015 finals held in Mumbai on September 5, 2015.

As well as working with fellow models who arrived from various parts of the world, Monisha had opportunities to visit a number of places of interest in Mumbai.

“I learnt a lot. I was too small when I visited Mumbai earlier,” she said.

Monisha represented her native Fiji at the pageant.

Advaita Shetty

Advaita Shetty, who was crowned Miss India New Zealand Worldwide at the local talent shares the dream of many in making this world a better place to live.

“The concerns of the world are your concerns, for it is one world. Little things can make a huge difference. God will help you strive and survive.

“Smile just because you can!”

Just before she left for Mumbai, she told Unitec Student Media that it would be an ‘awesome experience’ and had hoped to give her best.

“For anyone wanting to compete in the pageant, I would say, ‘Go for it!” Just be sure to stay true to who you are and be yourself because that is the only way you can stand out among the most beautiful girls in pageants,” she said.
