A magical world of energy and colour awaits audiences when one of New Zealand’s leading creative duos, Alver & Doy, premiere their latest show, Alice – A Wonderland Musical, at Auckland’s Aotea Centre in November-December 2024.
This vibrant and fun re-telling of Lewis Carroll’s much-loved tale, Alice will bring to life a rich array of adored characters including the White Rabbit, the Mad Hatter, The Red Queen, Tweedledum & Tweedledee, and the Mock Turtle, in an adventure set to take audiences on a journey with Alice through the looking glass, across the chess board, and into their own imaginations.
With 25 original songs composed by the dynamic creative pair and a storyline crafted from the words of Carroll but shaped for today, this wondrous escapade presented by the National Youth Theatre is set to light up the stage.
Alice is the long-awaited follow-up to Alver & Doy’s much-acclaimed Wendy – The Peter Pan Musical, first performed in Auckland in 2017 and now available in both full-length and Junior versions, with subsequent seasons delivered or in pre-production in Whanganui, Auckland, Hamilton, and New Plymouth.
Co-creator Jonathan Alver is an experienced show writer, director and producer with a wide portfolio of work in the creative, governmental, sporting and private events arena, whose current roles include Artistic Directorship of the National Youth Theatre (NYT).
Making up the creative pairing is brilliant composer, musical director and pianist James Doy MNZM, who has worked on numerous major stage and event productions and serves as Chief Executive of NYT.
