The Universal Peace Foundation has honoured a High School teacher with its honorary title of ‘Ambassador of Peace.’
Navin Kumar received the honour at a ceremony held Auckland on September 14, commemorating the ‘International Day of Peace’ assigned by the United Nations.
The Award recognises the efforts of individuals or groups in building a world of peace in which everyone can live in freedom, harmony, cooperation and prosperity.
“Peace is not simply the absence of war or a term that applies only to the relationships among nations. Peace is an essential quality that should characterize all relationships.”
As a Non-Government Organisation, the Foundation enjoys a special consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the UN. It works to support and supplement the great work of the United Nations, particularly in promotion of interreligious dialogue peace and human development.
A citation said that Mr Kumar has been a Justice of the Peace for the past 11 years and that he has been involved with various communities in the capacity as Secretary of Global Organisation of People of Indian Origin.
“He has also been an Independent Marriage Celebrant for many years in New Zealand. Presently he is the Head of Economics at Edgewater College. Mr Kumar is worthy of this Award,” the Citation noted.
