So do the Indian Business Awards

Manesh (not his real name) arrived in Wellington with his family and a suitcase.
He had no qualification, no specific skill set or appealing work experience.
Manish was stuck working long and hard. He had no qualms about working hard, and nothing was too difficult to do.
His family had the same ethos.
He was an honest and upright citizen wanting to do things the right way.
When Manesh met me, he had already tried many routes for a permanent solution to be in New Zealand.
His many attempts at gaining a residence visa were all met with a closed door.
His prospects for a New Zealand permanent residence visa were very dim.
Potential Winner
Once I ascertained his background, aspirations and his outlook I knew we were onto a potential winner.
He was not going to give up, his spiritual bent, his faith and disposition were enough to carve an immigration strategy and a solution that would allow us to have him and his family be granted a permanent residence status.
That is exactly what happened.
Manesh was one of my first immigration law cases.
He taught me that a new migrant with resilience can move mountains.
He just needed appropriate guidance and a little helping hand in the beginning.
Inspiring success
His success over the years is a source of inspiration.
Manesh today is a highly successful entrepreneur with an ever-expanding business in Australia, Singapore, India and the Middle East.
He recently purchased a $1.75 million residential property on the hills of Auckland, an area in which rich businesspersons and top corporate executives live.
But he remains what he was all those years ago – humble and hard working.
They are many people like Mahesh in New Zealand. Their stories are to be celebrated as they give inspiration to newcomers who are grappling their way in the dark.
Business Awards
Indian Newslink has been and is celebrating such success stories through the Indian Newslink (INL) Indian Business Awards (IBA).
These awards give recognition to the deserving and serve a useful purpose.
The Awards Night is an occasion to take stock as to where we as a community can pin ourselves, particularly given such success stories, in the general scheme and context of the New Zealand economy.
The contributions of such people are immense. They bring innovation, provide opportunity for employment, make available products and services that were not previously available in New Zealand and give access to overseas networks.
In some cases, they educate and enhance the New Zealand way of life.
The creation of wealth for some is the motivating factor.
New Zealand is the ultimate winner, as there is an increase of money circulating in this economy, which has a positive flow on effect on all.
The reality is that you can only give if you have something to give; such individuals find themselves in this privileged position as entrepreneurs, innovators and leaders.
Adventurous spirit
The migration journey has not failed these fortunate ones. They had the nous to take risks and move their paradigm and come out better.
IBA demonstrates success stories. But there are many others that would remain unknown but not forgotten, as the contribution to the society will create its own momentum and flow.

“Entering the Awards is much simpler than you think. You will have all the basic business information required readily available. Keeping it short and to the point is a virtue, which will commend you to the judges. You should consider forming a Business Awards team to prepare the entry. The judges are usually able to tell where a team has been involved rather than a single author, and by and large the result is a better entry,” Chad Wilkie, Chairman of the Panel of Judges said.
Scoring guidelines
The scoring guidelines used by the judges award low marks where there is little evidence of a systematic approach, where the information is anecdotal, where progress is more reactive than planned, where there is little evidence of a coordinated team involvement, and where key results and trends are not reported.
The judges will award high marks where there is an effective and systematic approach to the business, which is deployed without obvious gaps, where there is systematic, fact-based evaluation and learning, where the approach is well integrated throughout the organisation, and where results show that performance is excellent compared to benchmarks, and key customer and plan requirements are addressed.
