Summer in New Zealand is the best time to get on the road and reconnect with loved ones. But with the holiday season being one of the busiest times of the year, an unexpected breakdown can quickly derail those plans.
That is where AMI is on your side with AMI Roadside Rescue and community activations, offering peace of mind and practical help when out on the roads this summer.
What is AMI Roadside Rescue?
AMI Roadside Rescue is a high-quality service that provides unlimited callouts for 24/7 roadside assistance across New Zealand. Whether it is a flat battery, locked keys, tyre changes or an empty fuel tank, their team is ready to get you back on the road.
It covers you in any car you are driving and extends to any driver using your car.
It is available to anyone to purchase, even if you do not have insurance with AMI.
AMI customers can purchase this service for $49 a year, while it is available to non-AMI customers for $79 a year, with both options providing the same great level of service.
With AMI Roadside Rescue, you don’t need to worry about finding an open mechanic during the summer break or wonder how far you need to walk to find the next petrol station. Their team is waiting to lend a hand anytime, anywhere.
From January to November 2024, AMI Roadside Rescue received 18,000 callouts, with battery issues to blame for nearly half of all breakdowns. Most callouts happened in regions with more cars on the road, with Auckland taking the top spot, followed by Wellington, Hamilton and Christchurch. With around 1650 roadside rescues each month, it pays to plan for the unexpected because even though AMI Roadside Rescue will be there when you need it, there is never a great time to have a flat battery, damaged tyre, or mechanical breakdown.
Business Vehicles
AMI also offers AMI Roadside Rescue for businesses’ vehicles from only $69 per year with an AMI Business Vehicle Insurance Policy. This service includes up to three callouts per year, covering breakdowns, flat tyres and batteries, towing (for vehicles under 3.5 tonnes GLW) and more. Whether you have a small fleet or a large business with more than ten vehicles, AMI Roadside Rescue has got you covered. Get help any time, day or night and keep your business running smoothly. Contact AMI on 0800 800 802 or visit www.ami.co.nz/business to sign up.
Getting new drivers home safely
AMI has continued to grow its AMI Roadside Rescue service with the launch of a new offer supporting newly licensed drivers on the roads.
Anyone who has passed their restricted or full license in the last 12 months, regardless of whether they are insured with AMI, is eligible for free AMI Roadside Rescue for a year. No strings, no catches – just free rescues when needed most.
Take a break on AMI
AMI is encouraging Kiwi drivers to take a break when on the road this summer with AMI Driver Reviver. This series of roadside refreshment stops along popular holiday travel routes offers complimentary snacks, drinks, phone chargers and more, helping you stay fresh for the drive ahead.
With fatigue being a major cause of road accidents, research from Waka Kotahi shows that tired drivers tend to let their guard down as they approach familiar surroundings, like the beach or home. Road accidents and mistakes can happen when drivers are not feeling alert and aware, affecting reaction speeds.
AMI Driver Reviver will be out in force these summer holidays, encouraging all drivers to rest and recharge. When planning your road trip this summer, visit a spot along the way. Check the AMI website for upcoming dates and locations.
