About 20 years ago, it was my pleasure to meet Ravin Lal and Venkat Raman in the Garage of their Indian Newslink offices, after fighting my way past the boat and the bright Red Club Sport on the driveway.
Ravin and his wife Arin are such lovely people.
Don’t fuss, mate
I am not entirely sure if Ravin would approve of a lot of fuss being made over him.
I am sure that that he would rather we all just – went out for one more fish.
I remember Ravin inviting us a Saturday night to meet his Bank Manager.
Everyone that popped in that night, put a bottle of whisky on the table. By the end of the night, there would have been at least 30 bottles and the tasting had begun.
All the ladies were in the kitchen, trying to ignore us. They were laughing out loud and looking fabulous in their Sarees.
Ravin was a staunch businessman but he also had a big heart.
Strong family man
He was a very strong family man, with a no-nonsense attitude, which allowed him to cut straight to the heart of any matter, but always with a cheeky smile.
Ravin, thanks Mate for being you and thanks for your contribution to our industry.
It has been our pleasure to have known you and we wish you well.
May the road rise to meet you, May the wind be always at your back, May God hold you in the palm of His hand.
