Star pupil for global contest

Soccer is not the only competition held in Brazil as the recently defeated country (in FIFA World Cup as reported in Sportslink in this issue) prepares to welcome delegates from across the Continents for the ‘World Skills Championship’ title next year.

Fijian Jacklin Pillay, winner of the New Zealand Cookery Competition (World Skills Competition) held at Hamilton last week, will be the proud representative of this country.

Winning at contests is not new for this young woman currently employed at the ‘Urban Soul Café’ in Manukau, Auckland.

Last year, she completed her Diploma in Culinary Practice (Level 5) and won the Best Overall Student at Graduation ceremony of the Manukau Institute of Technology (MIT).

She won a MIT Scholarship (valued at $4000) in 2012 to complete her National Certificate in Hospitality (Basic Cookery) Level 3 at MIT.

At mid-year Graduation, she won the Best Practical student award for her Level 3 class and then went on to take out the award for Best student when she completed her Certificate in Advanced Cookery (Level 4).
