In a significant boost to the Islamic infrastructure, Auckland now has specialist, Opportunity (Op) Store to serve the Muslim population.
‘Jannah Road,’ located at 164E Stoddard Road, Mt Roskill (opposite Masjid E Umar) is reported to be the first shop in Auckland to cater exclusively to Muslims.
‘Opportunity Shops’ have since long been used effectively by Christian charities and organisations such as the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) to raise funds for their causes.
There are dozens of such shops in Auckland alone, staffed mainly by volunteers.
Islamic Causes
Muslims can now support Islamic causes as pick bargains at their own store.
Opened about six months ago, ‘Jannah Road’ is owned by Yusuf Moorad (who runs Proactive Computer Solutions) and his family.
Muslims who struggle to balance their budget will find ‘Jannah Road’ a veritable cave of Aladdin.
Like any Op Shop, ‘Jannah Road’ relies on donations for its stock. Currently, bedding, towels, household appliances, abayas, Islamic books, DVD’s, ornaments and prayer mats are available,” Yusuf said.
Like any other commercial establishment, this store has to cover its recurrent and other expenditure. The shop donates all monies left for Islamic causes.
Jannah Road has donated to ‘Voice of Islam,’ which has been on a fundraising drive in recent months. It has also donated hundreds of dollars to Working Together Group’s orphanage and foster home project.
Both are unique initiatives and worthy candidates for support.
Jannah Road is staffed by volunteers, including Israa Al Hussain and Sahar and would like to have more volunteers.
This Op Store is open from 9 am to 9 pm on all days.
