Sitar maestro due in Auckland

Lovers of Sitar will have an opportunity to witness the performance of a renowned artiste from India later this month in Auckland.

Sargam School of Indian Music is organising the Sitar recital by the Kolkata based Prasanta Bhanjo at Mt Albert Memorial Hall (773 New North Road) at 630 pm on January 22, 2012.

Tabla players Basant Madhur, his brother Deepak and the students of the Sargam School of Music will accompany the Sitar master at the concert.

Mr Bhanjo performed in Auckland in 2003. He is the guru of Hamilton based Sitar player Lester Silver.

Tickets for programme, priced at $10 per person are available at Yogijis Food Mart and the School.

The Sargam School of Music and Sangeetha Bharathi Music School have announced that they would conduct a Jugalbandi featuring renowned flutist Pandit Ronu Majumdar and saxophone genius Kadri Gopinath on May 19, 2012 at the Dorothy Winstone Centre, Auckland Girls Grammar School in Newton. Further details will appear in an ensuing edition.
