Malayalam film buffs and others from the community will get together at the Mt Roskill Intermediate School Hall on September 17 to pay tribute to a popular music director who brought fame to the Kerala film industry.
Ravi Muthumanickam is organising the programme (Karaoke style) in memory of Johnson Mash who died of heart attack in Chennai on August 18.
“Johnson was noted for his lyrical and expressive melodies with simple but rich tonal compositions of thematic music. He was a recipient of National Film Awards twice and Kerala State Film Awards five times,” Ravi said.
Among his popular compositions are Akashamake Kanimalar (Namukku Parkan Munthiri Thoppukal), Melle Melle Mughapadam (Oru Minna Minuginte Nurunguvattam), Kanneer Poovinte Kavilil Thalodi (Kireedam) Pathirapullunarnnu (Ee Puzhayum Kadannu), Chandana Cholayil (Sallapam) and Aadivakatte (Koodevide)
Ravi said that the deceased maestro started his career as an assistant to popular music director G Devarajan and became an independent composer in late 1970s with Aaravam.
“He was a recurrent collaborator for directors Padmarajan, Bharathan, Sathyan Anthikkad, T V Chandran, Balachandra Menon and others. He has composed music for more than 300 Malayalam films, the most by any composer except for Devarajan,” Ravi said.
