I am happy to learn that Indian Newslink readers will be able to read a regular column by Scott Styris, one of our most popular cricketers.
Watching Scott play has always an engrossing experience. This Australian born New Zealand player has been conferred with many monikers during his 12-year run in international cricket. His mates have called him ‘The Pig’ for being pig-headed in the dressing room, he is ‘Stubborn Styris’ for the media and a ‘Street Fighter’ according to former England Captain Nasser Hussain.
These sobriquets belie his single-minded passion for the game and his independent spirit. If there was a song that best described Scott’s zeal, it would be Frank Sinatra’s “I did it my way.” It is his never-quit-trying, go-for-the-gold attitude that makes him a leader.
My first meeting with Scott was one of trepidation. I have my own impression of the man that is Scott Styris. He is affable, likable, informed and articulate with a keen intelligence. He does not mince words when he wants to put a point across.
Just read his column (Page 32) and you will understand.
