Then India Valibar 2012 Annual New Zealand Sangam Carnival will be held on February 18 and 19, 2012 at the Centre Park Stadium (101 Robertson Road) in the South Auckland suburb of Mangere.
Organised by the ‘Then India Valibar New Zealand Sangam,’ the two-day event aims to bring together the South Indian Tamil community and promote its culture and heritage.
Mangere Centre Park Sports Association secretary James Kado said this would be the first time for the organisation to be associated with the Sangam and organise a community-focused carnival.
“We hope that the forthcoming event would inspire passion among the members of the community to seek pride in their culture and promote it to the wider New Zealand community,” he said.
Event Coordinator and Tournament Chairman Ashwin Choy said the Carnival would be a family festival with an emphasis on fellowship, goodwill, understanding, good food and entertainment.
A not-for-profit organisation, the Sangam has a number of branches in New Zealand, each of which participates in a number of sports events, including soccer, netball and volleyball.
