Hamilton resident Suman Kapoor will be honoured with the ‘Parikalpana SAARC Summit Award’ at the International Bloggers Conference scheduled to be held in Bhutan from January 15 to 18, 2015.
The Award is in recognition of her works in Hindi outside India through community service, education programmes and blogs. The Award carries a commendation certificate, a memento, an Angavastram (a thin shawl worn on either side of the shoulder or around the neck) and Rs 5000 (about $100).
Mrs Kapoor has been associated with a number of organisations in New Zealand since she migrated to this country 12 years ago. She is the Founder Member of the first Chapter (Waikato) of the Global Organisation of People of Indian Origin (GOPIO) in New Zealand. A former Chairperson of the GOPIO International Women’s Council, she is currently the Chairperson of the GOPIO International Cultural Council.
Ravindra Prabhat, organiser of the forthcoming conference in Bhutan, said that Mrs Kapoor has been promoting Hindi since migrating to New Zealand 12 years ago.
“Mrs Kapoor is passionate about Hindi and encouraged its teaching and learning throughout New Zealand. She has promoted the language through the Radio, community events and ‘Roshni’ a Hindi language publication.
She presented her plans for promoting the language at the Regional Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas held in Sydney on November 10, 2013.
She has received several other Awards in recent years including the Global-NRI of the Year 2014 (for Philanthropy) Award.
