The Holi Festival held at Telstra Clear Pacific Event Centre on the February 25 was one of the most successful events held in recent times.
Organised by Humm 106.2 FM, (the only commercial Hindi FM Radio Station in Auckland) with Bhartiya Samaj Charitable Trust, the event attracted thousands of men, women and children of varied ethnicity and cultural backgrounds, making it truly a ‘Festival of Colours.’
A variety of stalls were handy for merrymakers with food, savouries and sweets, while the young ones had access to bouncy castles other amusement games.
Humm FM Managing Director Satyan Prasad and Executive Director Roshila Prasad said the station’s profile, was visible at the event.
“Aucklanders and others in the region can expect more community events organised by us in the future,” they said.
Bharatiya Samaj Jeet Suchdev outlined the traditions of Holi and got the dignitaries into a celebratory mood.
Members of Parliament Kanwaljit Singh Bakshi, Melissa Lee (National), Phil Goff, Lianne Dalziel, Dr Rajendra Prasad (Labour), NZ First MPs Winston Peters, Race Relations Commissioner Joris de Bres addressed the gathering.
Among the other dignitaries present at the Festival were Human Rights Commission Principal Advisor Sam Sefuiva, Community Leader Ilango Krishnamoorthy, Auckland Council’s Local Ethnic Board members, City Councilors.
