Wahine Charitable Trust is proud to announce the grand finale of “Iron Shakti Plus- Be Informed! Be Inspired!” a united Call to Action campaign on Sunday, September 3, 2023, to combat iron deficiency and nutritional anaemia.

Building on the Anaemia Mukt Bharat strategy by the Government of India and leveraging the annual World Iron Awareness Week (28th Aug to 3rd Sept), the engaging and empowering program will inspire women and babies during the crucial first 1000 days of life, adolescents and women of reproductive age from the Indian sub-continent living in Aotearoa.
Iron Deficiency Anaemia is an important global public health priority as it is a critical driver of women and child health. 30% of the world’s population suffers from iron deficiency. Even in New Zealand a land of plenty 1 in 14 women are iron deficient.

In India nearly 52% or one in two women aged 15–49 years are anaemic. The loss of economic productivity due to anaemia is estimated at nearly 1.5% of the GDP or US$ 40-45 billion a year.
