A pugilist of Indian origin is keen to move up the professional ladder with adequate and appropriate official and community support.
Fiji-born Rohit Singh says he is the first professional Indian Heavyweight boxer in the world, having won (on knockout basis) in all the 27 professional Heavyweight Division fights in which he has appeared over the years.
Rohit said he takes the ring to help charitable projects involving physically challenged children, old people’s home and the needy.
From his native Lautoka to Auckland, it has been a long way for the young boxer who has challenged Monte Barrett, the boxer who fought with David Tua and won many titles.
“I will be appearing in a number of bouts in the US this year. It has been my dream to win the World Heavyweight title in America, with Don King as the promoter. I would like to fight the top ten boxers of the world, including Hasim Rahman, Nikolai Valuev and World Heavyweight Champions Klitschko Brothers,” Rohit said.
He is also excited that a few promoters in Dubai were arranging his fights with former Heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield.
“I am ready to fight anyone in the world. I have challenged Sonny Bill Williams and Clarence Tillman to appear with me in the ring,” Rohit said.
He considers his wins against Anmol Tiger on the second round in 27 seconds and Patrick Wise in the first round in 19 seconds (respectively in November and December 2011) as the highlights of his career.
Outside the ring, he is as soft as a feather, in his manner and speech, appeasing a growing circle of friends and of course, his family comprising his wife Ashwini, their sons Krishneel (15), Nikhil (2) and daughter Neha (9)
