The Indian government has announced that conversion of People of Indian Origin (PIO) cards to Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card at the Indian High Commission in Wellington would cost NZ$150 from today (March 1, 2018).
The Indian government had announced on February 26, 2015 that such conversion would be free of charge for three months from that date but later extended on many occasions and set December 31, 2017 as the final date.
Since then, thousands of people availed the free facility.
Those who did not avail themselves of the facility would now have to pay NZ$150.
PIO Cards are no more valid and hence PIO holders travelling to India must have their cards converted to OCI.
