A peaceful protest was organised by members of the Indian community at Christchurch to express solidarity with those affected by the recent incident in Kolkata.

“Reflecting on the tragic crime at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, I am deeply moved by the loss and the impact it has had on our community. This brutal act underscores the urgent need for justice and the importance of coming together against violence,” Bhaswati Ghosh, one of the organisers, said.

Our vigil was a powerful demonstration of our collective strength and unity. Seeing people from all walks of life join in a silent protest was heartening, showing that our commitment to justice and humanity goes beyond our differences. This solidarity reaffirms our dedication to fighting violence and upholding human dignity.

By standing with the victim’s family, we honour their memory and send a strong message that such brutality will not be tolerated. It calls for us all to strive for a safer, more just society where everyone can live without fear.

Dr Krishna Badami and Shirish Paranjape were among the speakers at the rally.
