Parliament adjourns sine die. These words are not heard these days to describe the end of a Parliamentary term, just as New Zealand’s House of Representatives did on Thursday, August 31, 2023. Our Wellington Reporter has filed a first-hand report on the proceedings and the last day of the 53rd Parliament also meant the last day for many retiring MPs. It would also spell the last day for many others who may not get re-elected on October 14, 2023.
When the Speaker says that Parliament is adjourned prior to the general election, it also means that the gloves are off and everyone gets into the battle for the ballot.
Indian Newslink opened its Electionlink pages on July 10, July 12, July 13 and July 17 respectively for Labour, National, New Zealand First and ACT Parties to do a host of things leading up to the formation of the next Parliament and then a new government. These include reports, analyses, interviews and open-eds written by Reporters, Correspondents, Contributors, Stringers, MPs and Candidates. This is a free-for-all war zone but we hope that it will not descend to chaos. It certainly promises to be dirty.
We have led our September 1, 2023 Digital Edition with a Report on the dissolution of Parliament and followed it up with stories relating to our Candidates and the ensuing general election. We have also reported on the community meeting attended by Dr Biman Prasad, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister of Fiji currently visiting New Zealand.
We have the usual departments and columns- Home and Current Affairs, Politics, Education, Business, Open-Eds, our Leaders, Community and Entertainment.
Please read and share with your family and friends.
