With apologies for the delay, we have pleasure in reporting a combined event conducted by the Pakistan Association of New Zealand (PANZ) to mark Pakistan Independence Day and Eid Al Fitr.
Pakistan High Commissioner Zehra Akbari was the Chief Guest at the programme held on August 24 at Dorothy Winstone Centre of Auckland Girls Grammar School.
Among the other Guests were Labour MP Phil Goff, former Labour MP Dr Ashraf Choudhary, National MPs Kanwaljit Singh Bakshi and Melissa Lee and Auckland Mayoral candidate John Pilano.
PANZ President Athar Awan said that the programme was divided into two halves to highlight Pakistan’s spirit of freedom and celebration of Eid Al Fitr.
“As well as organising programmes for children such as free art classes, the Association is promoting a number of educative and informative seminars such as the immigration seminar held on September 7. We propose to conduct similar meetings in the future,” he said.
The entertainment segment included songs by Arif Zia and Saima Aamir, poetry by Fatima Malik and dances by children, including the traditional Bhangra.
