It was as part of our efforts to connect with the youth and provide an opportunity to our young aspirants to get to limelight that we commenced ‘Model of the Fortnight’ five years ago. From our May 1, 2009 issue to this 15th Anniversary Special, about 120 young women of our community have decorated these columns.
Almost all of them have ambitions of making their mark as professional models. Among them is Ronita Lal, our Model of the Fortnight.
Born in Suva, Fiji, Ronita migrated to New Zealand when she was two years of age. Even as she enjoys the modern lifestyle of this country, she values her customs and traditions.
“I hope to hand down this unique mix of values to the ensuing generations. Some values should never become extinct,” she said.
Nervous Shoot
Ronita has a great affinity for modelling and thanks Photographer Bhikhu Bhula for his professionalism.
“My first photo shoot with Bhikhu was nerve-cracking to say the least. But when I saw the photographs, I could not recognise myself! Bhikhu always pursues excellence,” she said.
Ronita considers participation in Miss Indianz contest in 2012 (at which she shared the Miss Photographic Model title with Synthia Nath) as an important facet of her life. She has been a winner at Miss Queen of the World, Miss Tanoa Pageant (2013) and the Miss Face of Beauty India International (2014).
Ronita has a Diploma in Hospitality Management and a Certificate in Airline Customer Service and dreams of being a Flight Attendant at an airline.
“Life brings many challenges and all you can do is to try your best to face them and move on. I aim to be a confident, strong-willed, motivated and hard-working person. I know that one day I will get there and succeed in my aspirations,” she said.
