NZ Masters took the top honours, winning the Over 35s and 40s Veteran Soccer Tournament held at Bill McKinlay Park in Auckland suburb of Panmure over the Auckland Anniversary weekend.
The annual Tournament was organised by the New Zealand Fiji Soccer Inc.
It was a keenly contested six-day event with 20 teams in the fray but NZ Masters proved too good to beat.
Its Over 35 team played against Auckland Masters in the final, beating them by two goals to nil.
In the Over 40s clash, NZ Masters vanquished the NZ Lautoka Masters in a penalty shoot with five goals to three.
NZ Masters comprised guest players Henry Dyre, Patrick Wise and Marika Namaga. There was synergy between them and local players including Param Siwan, Suresh Goundar, Stewart Bola, Alan Jesoni, Ramen Singh, Michael Mudaliar and the Sharma brothers, Vineet and Rohineet.
NZ Masters created history, as it was the only club to win in both categories in a single tournament, taking home the pool prize of $8000 for the Over 35 and $3000 for Over 40s matches.
The organisers promised “a better and bigger tournament” next year.
“Bill McKinlay Park will always remain the home of Fiji Soccer,” they said.
