Mayor Phil Goff has announced that Nirupa George will take on the role of Chief of Staff for the Mayoral Office when Taha Macpherson returns to a senior role at the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) from May 1, 2018.
Ms George was the Mayor’s Principal Political Advisor and was his Campaign Manager during the Mayoral campaign.
Mayor Goff issued the following statement:
Tribute to Taha Macpherson
Taha has added a great deal to the Mayoral Office during his time here. He has brought significant policy and political management experience to the role.
He is going back to MFAT to pursue a great opportunity. When Taha took on the role in my office, he advised me that he would return to Foreign Affairs, and I wish him all the very best with his new role.
Tribute to Nirupa George
I am pleased that Nirupa is taking on the Chief of Staff role in my office. I have worked with her for several years and I value the energy and strong political skills she brings to my office.
Nirupa has previously been my Acting Chief of Staff so she brings a good mix of political skill, knowledge and experience to this role.
Ms George’s appointment is effective from late April following Mr Macpherson’s return to the MFAT on May 1, 2018.
Claire Rorke has been appointed to the role of Principal Government and Governance Relationship Advisor to provide political advice to the Mayor’s Office.
She will join the Mayoral office in mid-April.
