Nasinu lifted the NZ Fiji FA Inc IDC Trophy, winning the championship title at the final match held in Auckland over the weekend.
Nasinu outpaced the Nadi outfit, running a three goal lead and then it was Ian Hogg who pulled one back for Nadi to bring some credibility to the green machine.
Star Performers
Suhail Ali of NZ Nasinu was awarded the Most Valuable Player title for his skills.
Team Nadogo was awarded Team of the tournament for being well organised on and off field. Manager of the Tournament was awarded to Izaz Hussein of NZ Nasinu, in recognition of his soccer skill that led to the victory of Nasinu.
Riten Singh was award the title of Coach of the Tournament for rejuvenating the Nadi team which had slipped in rankings with NZ FIJI FA.
Nasinu goal keeper Faraz Khan was the hero of his side after he stopped Ba’s crucial penalty shoot out to put Nasinu into Shah Homes IDC final after 18 years.
The Golden Boot Award went to Mikhail Bredeve of NZ Tavua who scored eight goals in the Tournament.
The Rookie Award went to 14-year-old Mumin Ali, who featured for NZ Lautoka.
President’s Award
The President’s Award went to M T Habibi for organising a successful tournament in his first assignment as Chairman for NZ Fiji FA.
The commentary from the finals was broadcast on Apna 990 and picked up by Radio 360 and its affiliate station in UK on 103.6FM, delivering it to a total audience of more than 45,000 people.
The tournament was hailed as a success and the winners of Wellington based Cup will challenge the winners Nasinu in a tournament to be organised by NZ Fiji FA.
The longest running IDC Tournament (which marked its 21st anniversary this year) attracted more than 4000 soccer fans over its four-day run at the Centre Park Stadium in the South Auckland suburb of Mangere.
