Challenges motivate people to do their best in life and achievements encourage them to better their performance, says Vanisha Kumar, our Model of the Fortnight.
“I always strive to achieve my best not only for myself but also for my family.”
As the oldest of three children, she is keen to lead by example to her younger brother and sister and all young Kiwi Indians, showing that anything is possible with a bit of hard work.
Vanisha was a toddler when her parents decided to migrate from their native home in Suva, Fiji to Wellington.
She said she is proud of her Hindu culture.
“I love being a Kiwi Indian. It makes me feel unique,” she said, adding that she celebrates New Zealand’s cultural diversity.
Vanisha said that her passion to learn and respect other cultures took her to Japan in 2007.
She is an active participant at the dance competitions organised by Asia NZ Foundation as a part of its annual Diwali Festival.
This teenager is currently a Tawa College student, preparing to graduate in law. Her part-time job as an assistant at a jewellery store and her sporting talents as a netball player and netball coach provides her ample scope to deal with people.
“I am also proud of the titles that I won at the Miss India Wellington (Second Runner-Up) Pageant 2011 and the Miss India NZ 2012 Auckland (Miss Talent). My love for stage performance and the encouragement received from family and friends were factors that motivated me to enter these contests,” she said.
She attributes her achievements to the love and care showered by her parents, family and friends.
She loves glamorous life style, but admits that her loved ones keep her grounded to the real world.
