Wellington based Multicultural New Zealand (MNZ) has launched a nationwide campaign under the theme, ‘I care for a Covid-Free New Zealand.’
MCNZ President Pancha Narayanan said that the recent outbreak caused backlash for migrant communities throughout the country.
He was referring to two cases in South Auckland, including that of a worker at a fast-food restaurant who had allegedly breached the regulations of self-isolation after being diagnosed Covid-19 positive.
“We are unhappy that the finger was pointed at migrant communities in Auckland. MNZ has launched the ‘Covid-19-Free Communities Campaign to reinforce the message that we as members of ‘Team Five Million’ take equal responsibility for the safety and health of our community,” he said.
Mr Narayanan said that MNZ and its Regional Multicultural Councils around the country as Tangata Tiriti will take equal responsibility to tackle ‘this invisible enemy.’
“We also need the cooperation, collaboration and unity of all community groups. We are all in this together,” he said and urged every reader of this report to spread the messages to everyone in every community, every school and every workplace.’
Mr Narayanan also said, “This Campaign should not be used to raise funds.”
