Fun, entertainment and competitive spirit filled a memorable evening at a unique beauty pageant held in Auckland last month.
Organised by Sukhvinder Bhullar, the competition, called, ‘Mrs India New Zealand,’ was held on Saturday, October 18 at Hawkins Theatre in Papakura.
Bhavna Singh Chahal won the Mrs India Title, while Parmeet Sahni and Suman Sabbharwal were declared First and Second Runners-Up respectively.
Among the other winners were Surinder Garcha (Evening Gown) and Shelza Khan (Beachwear)
Janesh Kharbanda, Director of the Auckland based Life Corporation Limited, who was on the judges panel said that it was a good initiative exercised for empowerment of women.
“The participants posed a tough challenge to the judging panel. It was great to see women giving themselves time and effort to enter the contest of a different kind. It is hard for someone who is a wife, mother, daughter or sister to take part in an event that requires rehearsals, interviews and elimination rounds,” he said.
The Categories
The Mrs India New Zealand competition was divided into four equally scored categories. They were Interview, National costume, Beachwear and Evening Gown segments.
The judges awarded points for poise, personality, intelligence and beauty.
The National Costume segment assessed participants on overall appearance, confidence, elegance and stage presence, while the Beachwear section gauged the contestants on their overall commitment to physical health and lifestyle.
The judges assessed the contestants in the Evening Gown segment based on their beauty, grace, style and other common factors.
