Family support overcomes conflict of tradition
Modelling is an exacting profession placing people on the crossroads of traditional values and hence family support is vital for progress, says Seta Vaka, our Model of the Fortnight.
Born into a Christian Tongan family, she holds the values of her religion and family high and attributes her success in show business to her parents Piliseni and Pauline, brothers Taufa and Selwyn and sister Joyce.
A graduate in Information and Communication Technology, Seta works for Fisher Paykel Healthcare but aspires to be a top model.
“As a Tongan girl it was very hard to model certain types of clothes but my family helped me overcome the difficulties with their love and support. I am proud to be the first in our family to become a Beauty Queen,” she said.
Good credentials
Her credits in the field include ‘Hair Fashion Show’ for Seville’s Hair Academy, ‘My Calendar Girl Model Search NZ/Aussie,’ ‘International Lingerie Model Search,’ ‘Miss Diversity International 2013,’ ‘Miss World South Auckland 2015,’ Miss Earth New Zealand 2015’ and photoshoots with popular photographers.
As the winner of ‘Miss Charity Ambassador International 2013,’ Seta had the opportunity of being involved in charity in South Auckland and in her native Tonga, where she visited the ‘Kindergartens,’ the ‘Kids Hospital’ and the ‘Disability Place’ with food donations.
Seta believes that commitment, faith and perseverance will take a person towards success and become a source of inspiration for others.
Inspiring young
Her message to the younger generation is, “Never give up your dreams, because they will come true if you do your best and stay positive.”
“I thank the Heavenly Father for I know that He has blessed me with all that I am today and I thank my boyfriend Elchicano Antonio Pulemoana, my family and friends, directors and photographers for their love and support,” Seta said.
