Migration brings with it changes in environment and lifestyle but people should not move away from their culture and tradition, says Mubeena Maza, our Model of the Fortnight.
“We should be true to ourselves and despite peer pressure, we should not change to become someone else,” she said.
“True friends accept you for who you are, not what you wear and how you look.”
Mubeena migrated to New Zealand with her family from her native Mumbai 14 years ago and considers the move an important milestone in her life.
“I am extremely fortunate to have been brought up with two different cultures and roots; and more importantly, I have been taught to absorb the best of both worlds,” she said.
During her years at Mount Roskill Grammar School, she earned the distinction of being the only Air Training Core (ATC) Corporal for 19 Squadron.
“That was my greatest achievement,” she said.
She draws inspiration from her grandfather and also from American businessman and philanthropist Warren Buffet.
Travelling is her passion and following extensive visits to almost all countries in South East Asia, Mubeena plans to visit Egypt in the coming year.
“Reading and cooking hold my interest,” she said, adding that Ayn Rand is her favourite author, with ‘Atlas Shrugged’ an all-time favourite.
She is a photographer’s delight as the pictures appearing here and in our web edition show, while modelling is also her favourite hobby.
She was a contestant at the ‘Miss Teen India New Zealand,’ at which she earned the ‘Most Beautiful Hair,’ Award.
“I also participated in the Miss Indianz 2012, which boosted my confidence. I also met a lot of people and made many friends,” she said.
Mubeena loves every moment of her working day at Mercury Energy, which she says, fosters the family spirit and unity.
She aspires to pursue a career in marketing, aware that it is a tough profession.
“What comes easy would not last forever; and what lasts forever does not come easy,” she said.
