Since we began this column 17 months ago, we have resisted the temptation of revisting a featured model for two reasons: 1. There are scores of others waiting for their turn and 2. Every one needs some space.
But our photographer Anas Khan decided to feature Kartika Singh again, in less than a year’s span (she was on this page in our October 15, 2009 issue) was apparently encouraged by the fact that the teenager has covered some great lenghts in modelling and entertainment shows and could be well on her way to something big soon.
“We need to be a step ahead,” he said.
As we mentioned earlier, Kartika beleives in being self-sufficient, which is why she works part time at a fast food restaurant in a shopping mall after school hours and on weekends.
Born in Fiji (Nadi), Kartika migrated to NZ with her family in 2003. The only daughter, (her older brother is an AUT University student), it is little surprise that she is doted by her parents.
Kartika will reach the ‘Y’ Junction of her life and career next year when she completes her studies at Waitakere College.
“I would like to go across the Tasman and pursue a professional course in Event Management but I also have an eye on Childcare. It would be a hard decision,” she said.
Music, dance, modelling are among her favourite pursuits for this teenager, who also has her mind and heart at stage shows.
A winner and Runner-Up at a number of contests, Kartika is preparing for her annual appearance at the Indian Diva 2010 due to be held later this month.
Among her other shows are DJ Aqeel Night and Polyfest.
Despite her career ambitions in other areas, Kartika is keen to become a model, dance teacher and choreographer.
“Am I a bundle of contradictions?” she asked without any preamble. “May be I am; I envision running my own fashion shows and modelling agency some day,” she said.
