Model of the Fortnight

“Living together in a multicultural and multi-ethnic society broadens the mind and helps in understanding people of varied vicissitudes; it is almost like travelling to various parts of the world,” says Ratna Venkat, our Model of the Fortnight.

Born and raised in the Kingdom of Bahrain where she also received her primary education, this classical dancer had a refreshing experience before the camera, this time as a model. Posing came naturally for this Massey University student (pursuing her degree course), for as she mentioned, “Every step, style and visual expression in dance bespeaks a mood and a situation. It is very similar in modelling.”

Her upbringing in a cosmopolitan Bahrain kindled Ratna’s interest in different cultures. She likes to learn about various customs and logical attributes among ethnic groups, which in the process, augments her fondness to meet new friends and travel around the world.

Ratna says she is passionate about animals and hopes to make a difference in whatever she does- be it dancing, swimming, painting and languages, in each of which she is proficient.

While in Bahrain, she also underwent training in horse riding.

Ratna appeared in a short film Waiting for You (2008) and was a part of the performing artistes in Khoj last year.

As the only child, Ratna’s relationship with her parents is extremely cohesive.

She said her parents always encouraged her to do her best in all her pursuits.

Her interests extend to modelling, photography, cooking and travelling.

“I am artistic and love all kinds of physical activities that demand beauty and aesthetic value,” she said.
