Younger members of the community can take heart from a nightclub, which reflects the likes of similar outfits in India.
Delhi Nights has become a rage of young men and women of growing ethnic diversity and its popularity was evident when it took 12,000 hits and as many downloads within 60 days of its formation.
“In March last year, it became the ‘Mix of the Month’ and Delhi Nights hopes to establish itself a place of quality and give our youth a taste of the nightclub life as it exists in India,” says DJ Areeb, our Model of the Fortnight.
Born Mirza Areeb Baig Taimoori, he is proud of his rich heritage, which links to the famous ‘Taimurid Dynasty’ of Mughal India.
Born into a family of erudite scholars (both his parents are doctorates in Education and senior lecturers in Auckland), this Hyderabad native is a qualified software engineer (from Massey University and Manukau Institute of Technology). While his employment as a Senior Project Systems Engineer at a large computer firm gives him livelihood, his role as the DJ at Delhi Nights, provides him with a colourful social life.
“Electronic music, with its technological innovations always fascinated me and as I learnt more about its nuances, I was attracted towards the role of a DJ. This is now my passion,” Areeb said.
He is justly proud of the rising popularity of ‘Delhi Nights,’ which, he said, is beginning to attract the attention of international performers.
