Model of the Fortnight

Sanjali Nagpal is our model of the Fortnight. Her style of writing was so captivating that we decided to run her own words for this column.

Although photo shoots seem very glamorous, poised and elegant, it was a different story behind the scenes.

My photos probably may not seem so, but chances are that I was stopping myself from falling over, seconds after each shot was taken!”

I have always enjoyed being in front of the camera. I remember my parents dressing me up and clicking away as I posed as a ‘Supermodel’ or a ‘TV show host’.

Born in New Delhi, I stepped into Auckland nine years ago. Since then, I have been working hard to excel in life.

My loved ones always say that I am very varied in what I like and they are surprised by the choices I make… in a good way I hope!

I have been a keen dancer since I was five years old.

I would like to face challenges (I was the Head Girl of Pakuranga College in 2010), try every opportunity and create new experiences for myself. Miss Indianz (I was the Second Runner-Up in 2012) is a great example; I met people from various fields, learnt from them displayed my talent.

Dancing is my passion. I like to experiment and love to fuse different styles together.

I have mixed Waltz with Contemporary, Kathak with Hip-Hop, and Rock ‘n’ Roll with Bhangra, to name a few.

I am currently pursuing a double major in Psychology and Criminology at the University of Auckland, aiming to become a clinical psychologist.

I have always been ambitious, with a flair for life and a passion to help others.

One of my priorities is to bring happiness to people. I like to put people I care before me and I am not afraid to admit my mistakes, because that is what I am.

To my friends and readers, I would like to say, “Always aim for the goals that bring you happiness, because doing things you do not enjoy will never give you the self-satisfaction you deserve. Work to make your dreams come true. And most of all never have regrets in life.”

As American writer Theodor Seuss Geisel said, “Today you are you. That is truer than true. There is no one alive who is youer than you!”
