She may appear calm, collected and vulnerable but woe betides anyone attempting to take advantage of her; for, a rare combination of beauty and brawn is what characterises June Bi, our Model of the Fortnight.
Her role as a stunt master in films is not a make-believe fantasy, this young woman is adept at kickboxing and horse riding, two other tough professions that call for more guts than glamour.
Not that June is averse to glamour; in fact, she is a graceful model as proved by the pictures and on the web (taken by our Photographer Bhavnesh Soni). Followers of the ever-popular TV Soap Shortland Street would recognise her as a Nurse.
“I was thrilled to get the part through the good offices of Renato Bartolomei (who played the role of Craig Valentine, until he left the series, following his ‘murder’ more than two years ago). I have also had the good fortune of appearing in a few television commercials, apart from modelling and music video assignments,” she said.
Her passion for stunts received another push when she joined popular Bollywood Stunt Director Allen Amen as an assistant. She said his stunts in Race 1 and Race 2 were ‘a source of great fascination.’
June received another fine break recently when she worked with the crew of Players, a possible Hindi blockbuster, which was shot extensively in Wellington earlier this year.
“It was a rare opportunity to be in the same team as some of the popular stars of Bollywood, including Abhishek Bachchan, Bipasha Basu, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Sonam Kapoor and Johnny Lever. Like millions of fans, I cannot wait to see the movie when it is released (December 23, 2011),” she said.
A native of Nadi (Fiji), June and her siblings (three brothers and two sisters) were raised by their mother (their father died when she was ten years old). Following the completion of her education in Australia, she migrated to New Zealand to be closer to her family.
June has her eyes set on the Hindi film industry, with the ambition of becoming a stunt master, composing fights for heroes, heroines and villains.
“I look forward to working in India in the near future,” she said.
