The annual Miss Indianz competition this year will be open to all persons of Indian origin including those on student and work visas, according to a notification issued last week.
The show will also have a new category called, ‘Miss Indianz International.’
Both competitions will be held at the Auckland Town Hall on Saturday, September 12, 2015.
Reshab D Productions Limited Director Dharmesh Parikh said that while all contestants will compete in the same segments, two different titles will be awarded.
“Until last year, Miss Indianz was restricted to citizens and permanent residents but has widened scope and extent. This would enable more contestants to demonstrate their talent and help them launch their careers in show business if they so desire,” he said.
Popular Opinion
Mr Parikh said that the decision to include people of Indian origin on student and work visas was taken in response to public demand.
“With the introduction of the international division, more people can now participate in the competitions and enjoy the celebrations. Having organised this event since 2002, we have seen how the experience enhances the connection of the entrants with the diverse community. Some of the participants have secured employment due to the exposure received, particularly in modelling, acting and entertainment,” he said.
As well as beauty, personality, articulation, ability to get along with others, the competition also features a Question and Answer segment, Indian and Western wear segments.
Dignified Contest
“This is not a bikini competition. Miss Indianz is a Kiwi-Indian cultural extravaganza that celebrates elegance, fashion, music and dance. It builds confidence and enables the participants to display not only their beauty but also their talent,” Mr Parikh said.
