“The Open Day would provide an opportunity for those interested to learn about the Centre, its facilities and courses. There are pleasant bush walks for those who have time,” Mr Shah said.
“The following may be useful. Go 9.2 km north of Kaukapakapa on the Main State Highway 16; Turn right into Makarau Road; Then after 2.5 km, turn left into Burnside Road; The Vipassana Centre is 1.7 km along Burnside Road on the left. Please look for AA signs on SH16 and Makarau Road,” he added.
Special technique
According to Mr Shah, the Centre teaches the ‘Anapana’, a simple yet scientific, morality-based but non-religious technique.
“It uses a natural object to focus and is non-commercial. The course aims to let our youngsters experience the benefits of meditation. Regular practice of Anapana improves concentration and memory, increases self-confidence and greater capacity to study, provides the ability to deal with agitation, fear, anxiety and pressure,” he said.
“Meditation sessions are combined with discussion, creative activities and games in smaller groups. These courses are run on voluntary basis and funded through donations.”
