Meditation Course for youth

Younger members of the society will have an opportunity to learn and practice ‘Anapana,’ the technique of natural and normal respiration as a part of a meditation course.

The Vipassana Meditation Centre is organising the introductory course for teenagers in the 13-17 age group on February 15.

The same course will be repeated for children aged between eight and 12 years on February 8. Both courses will be held from 9 am to 430 pm.

Organiser Falgun Shah said that the courses will be held at a location in the Auckland suburb of Otahuhu but details will be announced later.

“The ‘Anapana’ technique is simple yet scientific, morality-based but non-religious, uses a natural object to focus and is non-commercial. The course aims to let our youngsters experience the benefits of meditation. Regular practice of Anapana improves concentration and memory, increases self-confidence and greater capacity to study, provides the ability to deal with agitation, fear, anxiety and pressure,” Mr Shah said.

As well as meditation, the course includes discussions, creative activities, and games in smaller groups.
