Mr Luxon was speaking at the 15th Annual Indian Newslink Business Awards held tonight (Monday, November 25) at Pullman Hotel in Auckland City.
The event also marked the 25th Anniversary of Indian Newslink.
Congratulating the ownership and management of the newspaper, Mr Luxon said, “Indian Newslink has been an important part of the media industry in New Zealand and is known for its services to the South Asian communities.
“I wish the management and staff of Indian Newslink continued success and all of us are happy to see the publication grow,” he said.
Mr Luxon said that he was looking forward to visiting India early next year.
“I had the pleasure of meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Laos (on the sidelines of the East Asia Summit on October 11) and I am determined to deepen our relationship. Once we have a foundation of relationship, we can start to progress the more transactional conversations around trade and security,” he said and added that the Indian Diaspora can play an important part.
Mr Luxon said that talks with India have been progressing well and that Trade Minister Todd McClay has already held several meetings with his Indian counterpart Industry and Supply Minister Piyush Goyal in India and elsewhere.
Earlier, Opposition Minister Chris Hipkins underscored the importance of fostering diplomatic, political, economic and cultural relations with India, and promised his Party’s support.
