Local issues should not cross borders

Local issues should not- Raj Mitra.jpgThe Local Board elections represent an important opportunity for the Indian community.

Our numbers have grown rapidly over the last few years and today we play an important role in the social and economic sectors.

It is therefore imperative that we are represented adequately in the institutions of authority so that our voices and concerns are heard and addressed.

We are a talented, hardworking and law-abiding people, who place great value on family, religious identity and our rich cultural heritage.

This election gives us the chance to ensure that our children and grandchildren find this a country a better place to live in.

We want them to live in an environment that would allow them to excel in their chosen profession and realise their true potential in life.

With proper representation, we can ensure that these dreams come true.

We have a duty as a people to ensure that those we elect to represent us in our Local Boards have our best interests at heart.

New Zealand is a land of opportunity and it is important that our people make the best of what the country offers and integrate into the society.

Local people must resolve local issues.

I have raised my hand to be your representative for Whau Ward, which includes Avondale, Blockhouse Bay, New Windsor, New Lynn, Green Bay, Kelston and Glendene. If elected, I will take your voices and concerns to the Council.

The issues that are the top of my agenda include improving youth facilities, making our neighborhoods safer, promoting cultural activities and improving public transport and civic amenities.

As a resident of Avondale, I have been involved in voluntary work in that area and in New Lynn, Blockhouse Bay and Point Chevalier for more than a decade.

I am now keen to contribute to the improvement of the Whau Ward.

My professional background and my passion for the community will help me to make our voices heard. I am ready to represent you on both the local board & Portage Trust.

By now, you would have received the voting documents. Please cast your vote before the deadline. Please vote; it is your fundamental right.

Raj Mitra is a C&R Community First Candidate for Whau Local Board and Portage Trust.
