Lecture to promote Good Governance

The Indian Newslink Sir Anand Satyanand Lecture will promote concepts of Good Governance, an expert has said.

John Allen, Secretary and Chief Executive of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade will deliver the Lecture at Stamford Plaza Auckland on Monday, July 4, 2011. The programme will begin at 630 pm with cocktails and networking.

Governor General Sir Anand Satyanand, Lady Susan Satyanand and several other people of eminence will be present at the Lecture.

Chad Wilkie, Executive Director of the Auckland based Ignition Partner and Chairman of the Panel of Judges of the Indian Newslink Indian Business Awards 2011 said that good Corporate Governance is significant to any enterprise, large, medium and small, and that Accountability, Transparency and Integrity are pre-requisites for corporate success.

“These principles are important to any organisation, be it a Government department, a State-owned enterprise or a private company,” he said.

The Lecture would be an appropriate tribute to Sir Anand, whose five-year term of office concludes in August 2011,” he said.

The Indian Newslink Sir Anand Satyanand Lecture, which we hope would become an annual event, is a tribute to Governor General Sir Anand Satyanand who has distinguished himself as one of the finest sons of New Zealand. His erudition, honesty, simplicity, integrity and contributions to various aspects of New Zealand have been recognised and respected the world over – these factors are worthy of celebration.

The Lecture has been structured to encourage New Zealanders in general and those in public and corporate entities in particular to appreciate and practice tenets of Accountability, Transparency and Integrity as an integral part of Good Governance. These are in fact enshrined in the life and works of Sir Anand.

As person of Indian origin, Sir Anand enjoys wide popularity and respect in the Indian community, and as such, a number of people of prominence from this community will be present at the Lecture. We have received expression of interest from members of the Maori and Pacific communities as well.
