Do you, or someone you know, need help with English?
For Yongsung Kim, settling into her new country from Korea was hard, but the biggest challenge was the Language.
“Even though I had studied English at home, ‘Kiwi English’ is quite different,” she said.
That is where English Language Partners helped. Yongsung joined their ‘English for Migrants’ Programme.
“I was nervous at first, but now it is okay. I have also learned more about New Zealand,” she said.
A range of programmes offered by the Institution helps students to develop the communication skills required to succeed in every aspect of daily life – to do shopping, seek medical advice, and make friends at work and in their neighbourhood.
Programmes
English for Migrants: a professional teacher at your home (pre-paid)
English for Employees: ‘Kiwi workplace’ language in small classes (free for permanent residents in employment)
Night Classes: Small, focused classes, after school, after university or after work
ESOL Home Tutoring: A trained volunteer at your home (free for permanent residents)
English Language Groups: ‘Everyday English’ community classes (low cost for permanent residents)
Birgit Grafarend-Watungwa, North Shore Centre Manager, came to New Zealand 12 years ago. She said that it can be lonely and intimidating when you first arrive.
“We hear so many positive stories from people who are grateful to their teachers. So, if you or your friends want to speak great ‘Kiwi English,’ get in touch now!” she said.
English Language Partners is an organisation with 30 years of experience. It accounts for 6500 students at 23 centres.
