In July 2019, Kathak Kendra Nrityashala began its journey with just three students, igniting a spark of cultural education and artistic expression in Auckland.

Thanks to its Founder Parul Juneja, what started as a small initiative soon blossomed into a vibrant educational hub.

From its humble beginnings, Kathak Kendra Nrityashala has witnessed remarkable growth. By July 2020, the student body had expanded to 50 students, reflecting the community’s positive response and interest. The school’s reputation continued to soar as it reached a significant milestone with 120 students in July 2021.

Parul is a paragon of dedication and passion in the realm of Kathak education. Her unwavering commitment to fostering artistic expression and cultural understanding has been a driving force behind the school’s impressive growth and success.

She has been the heart and soul of the institution, consistently demonstrating a profound enthusiasm for nurturing talent and connecting the community through the arts.

Her dedication is evident in the countless hours she has invested in developing and expanding the school’s programmes, ensuring that each student receives top-notch education and support.

The move to Melbourne

Even when faced with challenges, such as locating to Melbourne, Parul continued to lead and inspire, adapting to new circumstances and ensuring the school’s continuity and success.

Her passion extends beyond mere administration; it is reflected in her hands-on approach to teaching and her relentless pursuit of excellence. Her efforts have not only garnered accolades, such as the prestigious award from the High Commissioner of India on August 15th 2021 in recognition of her outstanding contributions to the Indian community in Auckland but have also solidified her reputation as a visionary leader deeply committed to enhancing the cultural fabric of Auckland and beyond.

The year 2022 brought a new challenge as Parul relocated to Melbourne. Despite this geographical shift, the school continued to thrive. Senior students, who had been integral to the school’s journey, stepped up as faculty members. Classes transitioned to a hybrid Zoom mode, ensuring continuity in education. Parul taught remotely, while trained faculty assistants guided students, demonstrating resilience and adaptability.

Although there were initial hurdles, the school emerged stronger.

Kathak Kendra Nrityashala completed its fifth year on the 23rd of July 2024 and to mark this milestone, its annual show, Nrityotsav has been scheduled for September 7th 2024, from 4.30 pm to 7 pm at Green Bay High School Auditorium. It promises to be a grand celebration of the school’s achievements and its enduring impact on the Auckland cultural landscape.
