The third Annual Indian Newslink Indian Sports Awards Presentation Ceremony will be held on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at Alexandra Park, Greenlane West Auckland.
Tickets priced at $70 per person, including the dinner, entertainment and Awards Ceremony are now on sale.
Global Financial Services Limited is the Title Sponsor of the Indian Sports Awards this year, while a number of well-known companies are the sponsors of individual categories.
A panel of judges, independent of this newspaper, is evaluating entries to the Awards Scheme.
Panel Convenor Sergeant Steven Smith (of Counties Manukau Police) said that the names of finalists and winners in the 13 individual categories and the winners of the Supreme Sportsman of the Year and the Supreme Sportswoman of the Year will be announced at the Awards Night.
He said that the Awards Night will be exciting, providing an opportunity for everyone to acknowledge the contributions of our sportspersons and celebrate the accomplishments of each of the finalists and winners.
“I extend my best wishes to all the nominees at the Awards Night and I look forward to sharing your success and joy and celebrating your sporting prowess. Having been involved with various sporting teams over the years, I am aware of the sacrifices and commitment required to participate in events, let alone compete in them,” he said.
Sergeant Smith said that preparations for the event are well under way and that like all sports enthusiasts, sponsors and the members of the judging panel, he too was looking forward to the Awards Night at Alexandra Park.
Among the other highlights of the programme would be Ashwin Anand of AA Promotions who will provide light entertainment, and a lucky draw at which two persons receive jewellery items as gifts from Brownsons Jewellers.
Our Achievers
The Indian Newslink Indian Sports Awards were launched three years ago to recognise and reward achievers of Indian origin in New Zealand in various sports categories.
Indian Newslink Managing Director Ravin Lal said that tickets to the Awards Night are limited to 300 persons to provide an opportunity for entrants, finalists and winners to network with sports achievers, celebrities, sponsors and others keen on promoting sports among the members of the Indian community.
“This is an ideal occasion for friends and families to get together, encourage and applaud and sports men and women. Our guests can expect quality Halal dinner and make use of the cash bar and kava corner,” he said.
