The get-together of officials of the Aotearoa New Zealand Federation of Tamil Sangams (ANTS) held in Wellington on January 7, 2022 acquired added dignity and significance with the presence of India’s High Commissioner Muktesh Pardeshi and his wife Rakhi Pardeshi.
The event was further exemplified by Durga Dass, Second Secretary (Press, Information and Culture) at the Mission, who attended with his wife Deepa Dass.
Mr and Mrs Pardeshi felicitated Indian Newslink Editor Venkat Raman who has been appointed by Queen Elizabeth II as a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit in her New Year (2022) Honours List.
“I am happy that Mr Raman has been decorated with MNZM. He is a veteran journalist and community leader of Indian origin. Venkat has been the Editor of Indian Newslink since its inception in November 1999 and has been in journalism for the past 55 years,” Mr Pardeshi said.
Among those who attended the event were Superintendent of Police and National Partnerships Manager Rakesh Naidoo, UNESCO and Library and Information Advisory Commissioner Vanisa Dhiru, ANTS President Raveen Annamalai, Vice-President Vai Ravindran, Secretary Dr Rajesh Katare, Treasurer Srinivasan Jaganathan and other leaders of the Tamil Community.
