As the Convenor of the Panel of Judges of the Indian Newslink Indian Sports Awards 2012, I was highly impressed with the calibre of the nominations received in various categories.
It was also pleasing to observe the members of the Indian community getting involved i
n sports, to not only promote fellowship and compe
titive spirit but also
remain physically and mentally fit.
Rocky Khan and David Bhana, who
were the winners respectively in the ‘Best Rugby Union Player of the Yea
r’ and the ‘Best Rugby League Player of the Year’ categories are a source of pride. Their success would undoubtedly encourage more young men and women from the community to take
up such sports in the future.
It was also very pleasing to see a number of New Zealand Representatives honoured in individual categories.
They include Super Sportsman of the Year Arun Pan
chia (Hockey), Super Sportswoman of the Year Shareena Nana (Hockey), Harshae Raniga (Best Under 20 Soccer Player of the Year), Jonathan Raj (Best Senior Division Soccer Player of the Year) and Rocky Khan (a finalist in the Best Rugby Union Player of the Year Category and a former Secondary Schools Sevens Representative).
Having achieved the requisite credibility and integrity, I am sure that the Indian Newslink Indian Sports Awards will get bigger and better year after year.
