With each passing day, the Government is left fighting to contain the damage caused either by members of its Coalition parties or its own Ministers.
The unnecessary and uncalled for attack on Air New Zealand is an example of what little control the Prime Minister has over her Cabinet ministers.
While Shane Jones was trying to be the champion of the regions by attacking a commercial operation, Winston Peters was causing embarrassment by suggesting New Zealand pursue a free trade agreement with Russia at the same time as the rest of the world was condemning the country sighted as the culprit behind the nerve agent attack in Britain.
New Zealand First
It appears that New Zealand First doesn’t feel that its role in Government is of governance but, rather, a self-interested road trip around the regions from which its MPs hail.
The latest embarrassment for the Prime Minister is her Broadcasting Minister’s cover ups and back tracks around meetings that took place with Radio New Zealand that has led to the resignation of a senior employee.
Following the 2017 election the Coalition Government inherited a strong, growing economy.
Our leadership governed New Zealand in a manner that delivered positive results on all fronts for all New Zealanders.
We got through the global financial crisis as well as the Christchurch and Kaikoura earthquakes because of the exemplary leadership that our team provided during those times.
Unachievable promises
On the other hand, the Labour-led Coalition has made unachievable and impractical promises to the people of this country. And instead of fulfilling their promises, all we have seen are announcements of reviews, working groups and committees or infighting and ill-discipline amongst the Coalition.
This leaves very little time and energy for New Zealand’s governance and I am quite sure New Zealanders expect better.
