Teresa Marinovich –
The Business, Innovation and Employment Ministry contracted the Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) in July 2014 to be the first point of call for newcomers to New Zealand.
CAB has 80 sites throughout the country, 30 of which were selected to give a wider geographical cover for settlement service for new migrants.
We are committed to make the experience for newcomers as straightforward as possible.
Vital information
Newcomers need to know about the New Zealand services, such as health, education and housing; as well as local information such as where to find playgroups for their children, school zoning and purchasing cars. All CABs run Justice of the Peace (JP) clinics for verification of documents (certified copies), statutory declarations and witnessing signatures. If legal advice is required, an appointment can be made for a short meeting with a lawyer in the bureau.
All CABs are free of charge, confidential and non-judgemental.
